The Archdiocese of Kingston celebrates its Bicentennial with a program of events being held today and tomorrow, culminating in the celebration of a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Mary’s Cathedral. I look forward to being with parishioners and clergy of the Archdiocese and Bishops from across Ontario and Canada. On this occasion, we extend our prayerful best wishes to Archbishop Michael Mulhall, a native son of this Diocese of Peterborough!
POPE LEO CONTINUES HIS ELEVEN-DAY VISIT TO AFRICA, bringing a message of peace and turning the world’s attention to this continent. More than a fifth of the world’s Catholics live in Africa, and it is one of the fastest growing regions for the Church. It was particularly moving to see the Holy Father in Algeria: as an Augustinian priest, it was significant for him to visit the ruins of Hippo where St. Augustine, his spiritual father, served as bishop. This article highlights the very personal nature of that visit for Pope Leo.
THE DIOCESAN CONVENTION OF THE CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE will be held at St. Mary’s Secondary School in Cobourg this weekend. I look forward to celebrating the closing Mass with the participants and praying for God’s abundant blessing on their good work!
I VISITED OUR LADY OF THE WAYSIDE CATHOLIC SCHOOL earlier this week. After celebrating Mass in the school chapel, Father Stephen DeCarlo and I blessed the new portables that were recently erected on the school grounds. Following an enjoyable reception with staff and parents, it was great to make the rounds of the various classrooms and see students.
THE 12TH ANNUAL WALKING PILGRIMAGE, “In the Footsteps of the Canadian Martyrs,” will be held from August 9th to 15th this year. Many young people have participated over the years in this pilgrimage from St. Joseph’s Church in Powassan to Holy Family Church in Britt. More details and registration information will be coming soon. Stay tuned to the social media pages of the Diocesan Youth Office for updates.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK WILL BE CELEBRATED in our province from May 3rd to 8th. This annual event is a way to for us to reflect on the many blessings that come to us through publicly funded Catholic education. Among other happenings, I am delighted that the province-wide Mass for Catholic Education week will be celebrated by me at our Cathedral, and with the participation and support of our PVNC Catholic community. That Mass will be livestreamed around the province, so that students, staff and parents may join with us virtually.
Fraternally,
+ Daniel
